19th September 2021 - Session 25 - The Trip Through Calling Horns - Lisa

The session starts with the gang all reaching level 6 in Yartar.

Dipple suggests posting a local job advert, context reading:

Wanted assistant butler,

100 gold pieces a week,

Contact Rossolio's butler.

The sole intention of this job posting is to irritate Rossolio's currently indentured butler.

The party decides to leave Yartar and prepare by doing an inventory check. Dunbarr buys two healing potions from Bearnabus.

Bearnabus tries unsuccessfully to sell his chips from the now closed, Grand Dame Casino.

Bearnabus decides to send some correspondence requesting information about a piece of metal that was sent to Waterdeep.

The gang start some unsuccessful internal bartering.

The gang get their horses and cart from Lady Rossolio and ride out for Nonar’s Hold.

While on the road on that first night, during camp, Bearnabus and Dipple encounter 12 elk while on watch. Dipple pulls an animal out of his mystery bag which happens to also be an elk.

Dipple tries to approach the elk but they scatter to the winds.

The next day the party (and Dipples magic giant elk) reach a small town named ‘Calling Horns’.

The giant elk, that was pulled from Dipples magic bag, follows the party into the town. The party decides to stay at a local inn and Dipple pays 5 silver pieces for the rooms for the night. The rooms are priced at 5 coppers pieces so Dipple is giving the innkeeper a hefty tip.

The gang head inside for a hot meal.

Locals in the inn talk about troll and orc troubles. They’ve been moving across the lands causing fear and confusion.

A hill giant was spotted by a local that moved to Westbridge.

Dunbarr suggests asking for help in the town of Yartar.

The party finds out that the innkeeper is taking protection money from the locals.

Dunbarr tells a local that we are the heroes of Yartar then proceeds to try and sell his jar of aboleth mucus. This causes the locals to disperse. This may also partly be because they’d taken a liking to trying to hunt the giant elk that had appeared outside the inn.

That night during the second watch, Kin hears strange noises from the stables where the party’s horses are being kept.

Kin wakes Dunbarr up to go investigate.

While leaving the inn, Dunbarr makes a lot of noise and wakes up Graupel.

Kin and Dunbarr arrive at the stables to find two trolls eating Graupel’s horse.

Dunbarr sends a message to the party to alert them of the trolls in the stables.

“Sounds like an unstable situation”

Dunbarr manages to free three of the stable horses.

When Graupel arrives on the scene and discovers her horse is dead, she starts to shake with vengeance.

One by one the full party starts to arrive at the stables and join in a fight against the two trolls.

Dipple successfully casts crown of madness on the trolls which causes the trolls to start infighting. They do a lot of damage to each other while the gang continue their barrage of hits.

Eventually one troll is taken out by his fellow troll and Kin’s shortbow deals the final blow to the second troll.

The party is victorious.

The innkeeper is watching the commotion and enquires about what happened. The party asks to be reimbursed for their killed horse but are refused.

Dunbarr removes the trolls' heads and immediately tries to sell them to the innkeeper in exchange for gold.

The innkeeper offers a letter for a special friend in Everlund. She says that a half-orc will provide them with a favor should they go to Everlund.

Kin heads off to round up the horses that got loose.

After some convincing from the local townsfolk, the innkeeper Tamolin is convinced to provide the party with a replacement horse.

The party decides to head back on the road, leaving the town to fight the trolls without them.
