20th March 2022 - Session 40 - A surprise slippery lizard attack - Sally
Dunbarr tries to find a way out of the stone giant corridor he's been trapped in. He uses stone cunning against the boulder and status, the statue is a Stone Golem with transmutation magic. It is too far away for Bearnabus to cast dispel magic. Heavy barriers, that Dunbarr cannot lift, line the corridor. Dipple checks another corridor and finds a life-size statue of an angry cloud giant with a mask on appearing to cast a spell. He doesn't enter but figures there must be rooms for each type of giant. In the central room with all types of giants, the Ice Giant is missing its axe. Dipple finds a room across from the stone giant corridor which has the doors frozen shut. Kin joins him.
The stone
giant statue gets close enough to Dunbarr for him to use a dispel magic scroll
on it, it works and the stone giant stops moving. Harshnag lifts the boulder
and Dunbarr gets out of the corridor. Dunbarr tries putting an ice sconce in
the hand of the ice giant statue, but nothing happens.
Upstairs,
Kin and Dipple look into a big room without entering. It appears to be a giant
feast hall with tables. There are slabs covered in blood and an active fire pit
in the middle of the room. Dipple throws a Giant Elk from his bag of tricks
into the room. The elk runs around the room and is suddenly speared to death by
a creature at the back of the room. The spear is biological. The creature is
not a humanoid. It is a monstrosity with many legs. A slippery lizard if you
will.
Dipple,
Graupel and Kin go into the room. The rest of the group joins while the
slippery lizard eats the giant elk. The slab in the room is green and blackened
with age, holding goblets and plates. It is stained with blood and grease. The
fire is gas-fuelled. Graupel stomps around and the creature dives into the
ground. Movement can be seen under the floor. Everyone jumps up onto the
slab/tables. They spot the Giant Axe from the ice giant statue in the alcove at
the back of the room where the creature had emerged from.
Dipple
casts slow on the ground and it hits the creature. The team crafts a plan -
Dunbarr and Graupel will go for the axe while others attempt to distract the
creature. Unknown if Elknabus's stomping has an effect. Kin shoots an arrow to
land on the ground, this has no effect. Dipple makes the sound of people
running, with an unknown effect on the slippery lizard. As Graupel, Dunbarr and
Elknabus dash towards the axe-cove, the creature pops up behind them and begins
slowly moving towards Graupel. Kin hits it in the back of the head with a
whistling arrow, inflicting 7 points of damage, the slippery lizard is
unperturbed and continues towards Graupel and Dunbarr. Dipple keeps the slow
spell going and inflicts 5 points of damage with a crossbow.
Harshnag
arrives and declares the slippery lizard to be a Ramorez. He says it must be
defeated. Dunbarr runs towards the Ramorez using blade ward. Elknabus rams the
creature causing 21 damage. The creature attacks Dunbarr but misses. Kin hits
it with a lightning arrow causing 31 damage, its skin shimmers.
Dipple hits
it with a fireball and then runs towards the Ramorez. Although there are 30
points of damage, the creature's skin seems to warm up and shine on impact.
Graupel picks up the axe and dashes back towards the tables.
The Ramorez
attacks and eats Dunbarr, he takes 27 damage. He is now stuck in its throat.
Dunbarr can see the head of the elk it has just eaten down the throat beginning
to dissolve in acid. Kin's lightning arrow causes the creature 37 damage. Dipple
casts fear on the Ramorez. Harshnag also attacks it.
Graupel
drops the axe to help Dunbarr get out of the creature. Dunbarr pours all his
alcohol (glass and all) down the creature's throat in an attempt to get it to
throw up. It doesn't work. Dipple causes a further 13 damage to the creature
while others miss. Harshnag cuts into the Ramorez with his axe and cuts its
head clean off! Dunbarr wiggles back out and is free! The alcohol is lost
forever.
